The memory of craft, the freedom of design
Paz Leather Art is a leather atelier in Istanbul, run by a small team of artisans. Everything we make is drawn, cut and stitched by hand, with waxed thread and no machine.
Our story
Paz began in a grandfather’s leather atelier, where a boy who would grow up to write software first learned the scent of leather, the oil of waxed thread and the rhythm of hand-stitching. When the atelier was passed down, the craft never stopped: custom orders, small repairs and constant experimentation kept the legacy alive.
Today Paz is a small team of artisans, led by its two co-founders: Zafer, the leatherworker — that programmer — and Pınar, the designer, an interior architect with twenty years of bringing aesthetics into everyday life. For us, craftsmanship carries the memory of generations; design is the free language that translates it into the present.
What we make
Table runners and placemats, sofa caddies and armrest covers, jewellery rolls, wallets, bag charms and pieces made to order. Our signature is the union of leather and lace: Turkish needle lace and hand crochet joined with leather. Browse the pieces in the shop, or read how we work in the Journal and the Leather Guide.
How we work
- By hand. Every stitch is laid by hand with waxed thread, in small-scale production.
- Packaging with a conscience. 100% recyclable craft paper, a cotton bag bearing the Paz seal and a small handmade surprise.
- A seed in every order. A periwinkle flower seed (Catharanthus roseus) — a reminder that design should respect the nature it borrows from.
Visit and contact
Our studio is in Istanbul, Türkiye. Visits are by appointment, Monday to Saturday, 10:00–18:00. Write to info@pazleather.com; we answer within one working day.
Workshops
Once a month we hold a leatherworking workshop for a small group at the atelier. Write to us to ask about the next date and what you will make.
